Chemical careers kicks off

This week CK Science, alongside sister divisions CK Engineers and CK IT, is launching ‘Chemical Careers’ – a 12 week campaign targeting students and those just entering the industry to highlight the variety of careers available to them.

With the chemical sector continuing to grow, the demand for new talent and multi-skilled professionals continues unabated. CK has chosen to proactively raise the profile of the industry and combat potential recruitment shortages.

With support from the Chemical Industry Association, the Royal Society of Chemistry and a number of employers who have provided business and employee case studies, CK hopes to join the chemical industries together to attract the vital new skills and talent needed.

CK launch to Chemical Careers campaign

This week CK Science is launching the Chemical Careers campaign, designed to highlight the diversity of careers available and skills needed in the chemical industries.

Commencing on Monday the 26th of January, the campaign will include case studies from employers and those working in the industry highlighting the skills shortages they are facing, what careers are available, what they want from their employees, why they chose the chemical industry and how they got to where they are today.

There are also links to industry bodies, surveys, fun infographics and video advice highlighting what its like to work in the chemical industries.

With a vast range of roles available in the chemical sector this activity aims to help young people and those working in the industry gain a better understanding of what career options are available to them and what employers really want.

CK Science adds functionality to CK+

CK Science has today released new functionality for its web-based service, CK+. This new functionality provides CK+ users with the ability to save jobs of interest into their account as well as view their application history.

The CK+ service was launched in 2013, when CK Science launched their new website so to give users greater control over their job seeking process. When registering with CK+ new users are asked to categorise their skills, expertise and locations; information which is fed live to our Recruitment Consultants guaranteeing they can find the right people for the right jobs.

Since the new CK Science website was launched there has been great strides made to ensure that the site is as accessible and user friendly as possible. These developments have included a mobile friendly version, functionality that allows you to email yourself, friend or colleague any job of interest as well as improving site performance and speed.

However permanent roles have seen little decline, with the majority of the drop hitting the contract market. With only a week until Christmas the Analytical Chemistry jobs market is going stronger than expected.

CK Science consultant runner up at industry awards

CK Science Senior Consultant, Graeme Pallas was announced as runner up for the Temporary Consultant of the Year award at the IRP Awards – The Institute of Recruitment Professionals.

These prestigious awards celebrate excellence in recruitment by honouring the achievements of individual recruiters and recruitment organisations across all disciplines.

The ceremony took place last night at the iconic Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London and the event was hosted by renowned broadcaster, writer and priest – Reverend Richard Coles..

Graeme joined CK in 2010, and is based at our Durham office, where he specialises in temporary scientific and engineering recruitment for the North East and Scotland.

Having previously been a policeman, Graeme displays a calm, professional, efficient approach to recruitment which has positively impacted recruitment numbers for the North East. He has won numerous awards within CK Science for his performance and has consistently overachieved in terms of targets and KPIs, all of which has contributed to him becoming CK Science’s top temp recruiter in just four years.

Graeme Pallas is an innovative, professional, personable and self effacing recruiter who works in a very organised manner, managing and growing an extremely robust division. IRP Awards winners announced tomorrow

CK Science’s Graeme Pallas will finally find out the results of his Temporary Recruiter of the Year category on Friday 5th December, when the IRP winners are announced.

The awards, which are to recognise and reward excellence in recruitment, are being held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London and hosted by Reverend Richard Coles, the renowned broadcaster, writer and priest.

Graeme, who was a policeman before he joined CK Science, was recruited in 2010 to focus on temporary scientific recruitment. Nominated due to the impressive impact he has had on the results of our Durham office, Graeme quickly became one of our top temp recruiters.  His calm and efficient approach has seen him frequently overachieve against his targets and KPI’s as well as win numerous awards within the business.

As part of the CK Group, everyone at CK Science is also supporting Jim Gleeson at CK Clinical who is a finalist for the Best Client Experience. Jim, who has worked for CK Clinical for 5 years, is renowned within the business for his ability to find the perfect candidate regardless of location or the skillsets required and dedication to his clients.

QC Analyst – Stirling

CK Science has an excellent opportunity for a QC Analyst to join a leading biotechnology company in Stirling.

This organisation is the 3rd largest manufacturer of inhalation anesthetics globally and one of the top 10 custom manufacturing pharmaceutical companies in the world.

This is initially a 12 month contract but with potential to go permanent, offering a salary of £22,000 to £27,000.

CK team enjoy Chemistry World Jobs Live event

For the 2nd year CK Science have exhibited at the Chemistry World Jobs Live event which took place on Wednesday 26th November at Burlington House in London.

Once again the event was very busy with students, graduates and experienced chemistry candidates flocking to the event to discuss their career aspirations with leading organisations, including AstraZeneca, Croda and Johnson Matthey, as well as recruitment experts such as CK Science.

Throughout the day the event offered a variety of activities including round table discussions, workshops, and even 1-2-1 CV Clinics to help improve employment options. CK Science’s Victoria Walker was asked to be a panelist again for this years round table discussions. During her slot she talked about her career which has included a First in her Chemistry degree, nearly 5 years at CK Science where she specialists in the chemical industry and winning the top industry awards for recruitment – Recruiter of the Year and Permanent Recruiter of the Year in 2013.

CK Science retains Investors In People accreditation

CK Science is thrilled to have retained the Investors in People Standard having been working within the standard for the past 12 years, following a recent assessment.

Staff at CK Science took part in a recent assessment where they were asked about CK Science as an employer and their personal development opportunities. The report received back following these interviews highlighted that CK Science could actually achieve a higher level of accreditation should they decide to in the future.

CK Science celebrates YCF’s 10th Anniversary

On Tuesday 7th October CK Science joined the YCF at their 10th Anniversary Dinner, where they celebrated 10 years helping the chemical manufacturing industry alongside 180 attendees.

As strong advocates of the work performed by the YCF, CK Science sponsored this special event which saw an action packed agenda made up of:

  • Drinks reception by Panda’s Kitchen
  • Welcome from Jill Mooney, YCF CEO
  • Thank you from CK Science’s Victoria Walker
  • Three-course dinner
  • Founding Members Award Ceremony
  • Balloon raffle
  • Fun casino

The night was a certain success with all attendees enjoying the night and we would like to thank the YCF and other guests for their company. In addition, £1,425 was raised for Lalia Milly Foundation and Martins House Children’s Hospice.
